McCLELLAND BARCLAY Pearl & Rhinestone Encrusted Cuff Bracelet
McCLELLAND BARCLAY Pearl & Rhinestone Encrusted Cuff Bracelet
This is the "pièce de résistance", the rarest of the rare McClelland Barclay costume jewellery. This fully signed pearl and rhinestone encrusted cuff bracelet is a beauty in all respects: the design, the materials used, and the condition. This three-dimensional gold-plated cuff is encrusted with creamy white and gold faux pearls and clear rhinestones, and accented with swirls of black enamel. A metal-shaped dagger on a chain permits a secure closure of the bracelet.
Vintage costume jewellery collectors may agree it is reminiscent of Trifari's "Empress Eugenie" line patented by Alfred Philippe in 1940, although the Trifari bracelets are not rigid cuffs.
This McClelland Barclay pearl and rhinestone encrusted cuff bracelet was made about the same time by Rice-Weiner & Co. in Providence, RI. Since I have only seen this cuff bracelet once, I believe this piece may be a one-of-a-kind or a prototype that was not produced in quantity. You can learn more about this piece in my book on page 136.
I acquired this rare piece from a private client many years ago, and I'm sure the new owner will be proud to wear it, knowing how rare and beautiful it is!
