Vintage Conditions
This page is intended to help our customers understand what criteria is used when identifying the condition of authentic vintage costume jewellery and home decor items for sale on this site.
Every item is inspected by hand by our McClelland Barclay expert who determines how each item should be described.
As with all items that have been previously owned and used, it is normal to see signs of wear. Usual signs of age include some surface scratches and patina, as one might expect in items that are 80-100 years old. If any items have noticeable marks or elements missing, damaged, or repaired, these have been noted, and they affect the condition report for each item.
All items are the best that are available, and many are rare, possibly one-of-a-kind. In general, McClelland Barclay products are scarce as they were never produced in large quantities, and in the case of his jewellery, it was only made for 5 years, from 1938-1943.
You will find vintage jewellery and home decor products on this site described with the following general conditions, and in some cases, more specific information about a piece is also provided. Regardless, items are sold in 'as is' condition. Please see our Store Policies for more information.
