Vintage Conditions

This page is intended to help our customers understand what criteria is used when identifying the condition of authentic vintage costume jewellery and home decor items for sale on this site.

Every item is inspected by hand by our McClelland Barclay expert who determines how each item should be described.

As with all items that have been previously owned and used, it is normal to see signs of wear. Usual signs of age include some surface scratches and patina, as one might expect in items that are 80-100 years old. If any items have noticeable marks or elements missing, damaged, or repaired, these have been noted, and they affect the condition report for each item.

All items are the best that are available, and many are rare, possibly one-of-a-kind. In general, McClelland Barclay products are scarce as they were never produced in large quantities, and in the case of his jewellery, it was only made for 5 years, from 1938-1943.

You will find vintage jewellery and home decor products on this site described with the following general conditions, and in some cases, more specific information about a piece is also provided. Regardless, items are sold in 'as is' condition. Please see our Store Policies for more information.

Shop for authentic collectible McClelland Barclay home decor accents. Add a rare piece of Art Deco history to your home or office. From 1931 to 1939, McClelland Barclay Art Products, Inc. was a commercial enterprise the artist operated from New York to market his home decor accessories such as bookends, desk accessories, vases, statuettes, figurines, photo frames, and decorative boxes, bowls and plaques.

Signed Art Deco Metal Art: McClelland Barclay's signature is on his creatures from land and sea, allegorical figures and female nudes. Made of cast bronze like this cigarette or trinket box with lamb figurine. Some were created in different finishes including "McClelland Barclay green" genuine bronze plate, real gold and silver plate and ivory enamel.

Devoted desk companions: A life-long dog lover, McClelland Barclay's art often included dogs. He immortalized the original seeing-eye dog in a pair of "Buddy" bookends. And, his miniature bronze-plated Pekingese figurine or Spaniel dog letter opener would make wonderfully loyal desk companions!
